Request for community consultation on the future use of the Visy site at South Brisbane
Eligibility - Residents of the State of Queensland1/90 Vulture Street
SOUTH BRISBANE QLD 4101
Queensland Residents draws to the attention of the House the need for community consultation on the future use of the state-owned Visy site on Montague Road in South Brisbane. This seven hectare site is the home of the Visy glass recycling and manufacturing facility and is one of Brisbane’s few remaining riverside industrial sites.
The Crisafulli Government recently invited private developers to submit proposals for residential, hospitality and retail developments at the Visy site.
There has been no community consultation on the redevelopment plan, or on recent changes removing requirements for affordable housing and long-term rentals in the Temporary Local Planning Instrument which overlays the Visy site.
Residents have growing concerns the redevelopment of the Visy site will not meet community expectations and needs.
A recent survey of local residents showed 88% supported public greenspace at the Visy site, and 40% called for either social and affordable housing, Rent-to-Buy apartments, or Build-to-Rent apartments to be built on the site.
Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to ensure that the Deputy Premier, Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning undertakes formal community consultation on the future use of the Visy site and that this feedback is incorporated into any decision regarding the redevelopment of this site.
