Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House the excessive fees charged by medical clinics to see returning patients to provide them with results from medical tests. As an example, a general practice in Caloundra charges $103 plus credit card fees for an 8-minute appointment to collect a self-collection test to administer yourself at home. Then they charge the same again for a 5-minute appointment to get the results printed out.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to do all in its power, including making any necessary representations to the Federal government, to ensure that all medical clinic appointment fees for doctor-referred test results be free of charge for the patient if they attend an appointment within 30 days of the doctor receiving the results and requesting the patient to schedule an appointment to review the results, provided the appointment doesn’t exceed the “standard appointment” duration of 10 minutes.
