Call for amendment of the Sunshine Coast Proposed Planning Scheme 2025
Eligibility - Residents of the State of Queensland94 Point Cartwright Drive
BUDDINA QLD 4575
Queensland Residents draws to the attention of the House, the Sunshine Coast Regional Council's Proposed Planning Scheme 2025 (SCRCPPS) and its inconsistency with State interest in transport infrastructure. The excessive densification planned for the Coastal Corridor from Maroochydore to Caloundra is not aligned to State funded, priority transport projects. We believe, the SCRC needs to consider alternative areas that will not lead to population overstocking of the Coastal Corridor and better align with State infrastructure priorities.
The SCRCPPS incorrectly assumes a rapid transit system (RTS), along this coastal corridor. We contend this will not occur in the time frame of the new planning scheme, if at all, based on the following:
• The RTS Business Case for Maroochydore to Birtinya is yet to be completed.
• "The Wave" is the State's transport priority. There is no confirmed State or Federal funding for a RTS.
• No Business Case for RTS Birtinya to Caloundra exists.
The Sunshine Coast Regional Council therefore needs to review this plan to align its land use planning to State funded, priority projects and reflect confirmed infrastructure not unfunded "possible" infrastructure. Failure to do so has the potential to significantly impact the amenity and lifestyle of current and future residents in the coastal corridor.
Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to do all in its power to have the Sunshine Coast Regional Council’s Proposed Planning Scheme amended.
