The petition of citizens of Queensland draws to the attention of the House that we are suffering a lack of amenity and have concerns for safety arising from the operation of various forms of water craft using the Labrador Channel.
Your petitioners therefore request the House to call on the Queensland Government to:
A. Recognise that unacceptable noise and impairment to safety result from;
Speed boats, including shore racing vessels, with propellers activating and/or with open exhausts which disregard speed limits,
Vessels used for water skiing, (particularly with inexperienced skiers) taking erratic courses,
Personal water craft , racing and disregarding speed limits and distance off restrictions from moored vessels, the shore line and ramps and pontoons and free styling, Jet boats with passengers doing doughnuts and following erratic courses in the Labrador Channel.
B. Respectfully request that a six (6) knot speed limit be introduced for all vessels using the Labrador Channel.
