The petition of citizens of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the withdrawal of the Holy Bible from the bedside of numerous Public Hospitals in Queensland.

The opportunity for patients and their families to access the Holy Bible at their bedside during a hospital stay provides significant comfort and assurance in an often vulnerable time. In the provision of bedside bibles the hospital not only caters for the patients’ physical needs, but also their spiritual and emotional wellbeing.

Your petitioners therefore request the House to introduce a universal policy ensuring that all Queensland patients in the public hospital system have access to a Holy Bible at their bedside, which is provided and maintained by the existing organisation.
