The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the
attention of the House the increased volume of heavy haulage mining
equipment traffic through the townships of Eton, North Eton, Marian and
Pleystowe en route for repairs in the Industrial Areas of Mackay.

Your petitioners therefore request the House to address our concerns
about the safety of our school children and the residents in the
aforementioned towns in the short-term with sufficient government funding
made available for the immediate undertaking of works to bring the Sandy
Creek Bridge on Homebush Road up to an acceptable standard to take this
traffic out of the aforementioned townships; and further, that the
appropriate agencies work together in order to establish and implement a
long term solution that takes all heavy and overwidth vehicular traffic
out of our towns, as it is just as necessary to implement a high quality
road infrastructure to service the mines as it was to establish the rail
and port infrastructures in the recent past given that the mining
industry is ever increasing in size.
