The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the
attention of the House that Oxley Drive Coombabah is now a 4 lane dual by
pass road which the children must cross to access the Coombabah Primary
School. This major road has two lanes in each direction constructed at
different levels. The central road island is on a downward slope towards
the school and Oxley Drive is traversed by in excess of 700 cars per hour.

Without crossing guards, the safety of the children, teachers, families
and others is compromised.

Despite these concerns the Transport Department has advised that the
crossing supervisors will be removed upon completion of the Oxley Drive
Project in June 2005.

Your petitioners therefore request the House to appoint permanent
crossing supervisors in order to ensure the safety of the children.
