The Petition of citizens of Queensland draws to the attention of the House that current sentencing for child sexual abuse offences in Australia is not sufficiently consistent or severe to reflect the lasting harm caused to victims and the seriousness of the crime.
Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to do all within its power to review and strengthen sentencing laws for child sexual abuse offences to ensure stricter, more consistent penalties that prioritise victim protection and long-term justice.
