4513-26 Keep Victoria Park for our community

The Petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House to Victoria Park being a valuable green jewel and well-loved community space. The proposal to close it to build a stadium which will encumber our community with a debt we cannot service is contrary to community needs. Clean water, nutritious food, healthy clothing and safe homes are what we need.
There is only one bus stop and developing a stadium and necessary transport infrastructure will rob us of valuable greenspace when most forward-thinking cities are expanding and reclaiming greenspace.
Our community was not consulted and is against the decision to close Victoria Park to build another stadium which is unnecessary as existing venues and stadiums have the necessary combined capacity and transport infrastructure to provide for opening and closing ceremonies for the Olympics.
Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to allow Victoria Park to continue its operations and develop its accessibility for our community through our active transport network.
Asking students and community volunteers to envision and implement ways of using available resources for provisioning naturally fresh water, nutritious foods through regeneratively grown superfoods grown in vertical gardens in our parks and gardens.
IOC to be directed by our community and reenvision opening and closing ceremonies and spread events over various appropriate venues across the state.
Building accommodation into existing venues and improving our active transport network will efficiently, effectively and economically maximise our resources, ensuring future benefits for all our community.
