TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

The Petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House dangerous hooning taking place at the intersection of Waterford Tamborine Road and Yarrabilba Drive, Yarrabilba.

The intersection of Waterford Tamborine Rd and Yarrabilba Drive has become a hotspot for hooning in the Logan area. The hooning blocks off the only exit out of the suburb of over 15,000 residents, putting their lives at risk, and those of the community.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to take decisive action towards the deterrence of large-scale hooning activities at the intersection.

The petitioners call for the following three points to be actioned by the relevant minister.

  1. Physical lane separation on the approaches to the intersection on Waterford Tamborine Road and Yarrabilba Drive through the usage of concrete barriers or other physical infrastructure and the installation of other traffic calming measures currently used by the Department of Transport and Main Roads.
  2. Providing greater local police resources for the Logan Village – Yarrabilba Police Station, to allow for the enforcement of the law against hoons through sting operations at the intersection during times of increased hooning activity.
  3. The installation of red-light cameras and anti-hooning cameras equipped with facial and number plate recognition technology at the intersection and throughout Yarrabilba.
