4423-26 Urge the Queensland Government to reform current laws regarding cult groups
Eligibility - Residents of the State of QueenslandRevolt Against Cults
22 Tracey Street
TOOWOOMBA QLD 4350
The Petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the community’s concern about the growing number of cult groups that currently exist within Queensland, and the ease in which they can by-pass laws due to gaping ’loopholes’ within the State’s legislation system. As a result, the Queensland State Laws (and Local Councils’ legislations) have inadvertently allowed the illegal and harmful activities of cult groups to flourish and remain undetected for decades.
Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to introduce State law reforms which will inhibit the establishment of cult groups and prevent such organisations from coercing others to practise their ideologies and abusive belief systems. The Queensland residents propose that the Queensland State Government:
- include legal clauses in the Anti-Discrimination Bill 2024 (Qld), Schedule 109 ‘religious bodies’ to include a clear definition of a ‘religious body’, ‘spiritual group’, ‘sect’, and ‘cult group’. Also include legal clauses which inhibit cults groups from being able to engage in illegal activities, businesses, and/or charities, and establishing their branches within Queensland;
- make amendments to Fighting Antisemitism and Keeping Guns out of the Hands of Terrorists and Criminals Amendment Bill 2026 to include a specific section pertaining to ‘cult groups’ and laws to prevent them from freely gaining access to weapons and inflicting harm onto other citizens;
- introduce the About-Picard Anti-Cult Law - as has been done in France; and
- establish a specific anti-cult task force similar to the M.I.V.I.L.U.D.E.S Agency of France.
