4366-26 Make Desexing Mandatory Before Adoption in Queensland
Eligibility - Residents of the State of Queensland21 Halifax Street
GARBUTT QLD 4814
The Petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House that the ongoing issue of stray and abandoned animals in Queensland is being worsened by the practice of rehoming animals from rescue centres without mandatory desexing. This results in preventable breeding, increased stray populations, pressure on local councils and rescue organisations, and negative impacts on community safety and animal welfare. Desexing prior to adoption is a proven, humane, and effective measure to reduce overpopulation and improve outcomes for animals and the community.
Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to legislate that all animals rehomed through Queensland rescue centres must be desexed prior to adoption, and to establish clear compliance requirements and oversight mechanisms to ensure these mandatory desexing obligations are met across the State.
