The Petition of electors of the Division of Kurwongbah draws to the attention of the House that the "Electoral Laws (Restoring Electoral Fairness) Amendment Bill 2025 contains two particularly contentious aims: 1) That of preventing persons serving prison sentences of one year or more from voting in Queensland specific elections and 2) Removing the ban on political donations from property developers for State elections (while retaining this ban for local government elections). Your petitioners believe that such significant changes to the electoral laws are so politically charged that it is quite foreseeable that they will continually be "flip flopped" depending on which major party is in government at the time (as demonstrated by this bill itself).

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to withdraw these contentious issues from the bill and refer them to all the citizens of Queensland (via a Referendum or similarly comprehensive instrument such as a statewide postal survey) to give a long-term legitimacy to the final outcome that the people themselves choose.
