Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House the proposed six months closure by Transport and Main Roads of a major arterial thoroughfare in Gympie. Without any consultation residents and businesses have been advised that the two-kilometre stretch of Gympie Connection Road from Tin Can Bay Road to Browns Road will close. More than 300 cars an hour travel the road. It is a cost-saving decision which has been made with no consideration for those directly impacted and will result in significant safety concerns from traffic including school buses and trucks being redirected off road and through town. The potential impact on local business which have already been severely impacted by the floods is unsustainable.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to call on the Government to reconsider the proposed closure of a major arterial thoroughfare in Gympie and find an alternative solution for the work to be undertaken in the least disruptive way possible.
