Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House the need for an additional bus stop in Kingsthorpe for the Oakey State High School to Kingsthorpe P1036 bus run. This run services the students who live in Kingsthorpe and attend the Oakey State High School. There is only one drop off point in Kingsthorpe for the students travelling from Oakey which is located in Gowrie Street outside the Kingsthorpe War Memorial Hall. This is in a busy traffic zone and on Wednesday’s the Toowoomba Regional Council mobile library truck parks in the same area from 3:00pm – 6:15pm creating further congestion. It is a hectic traffic zone for parents dropping off/picking up children by car. This drop off point is a significant walk for students with some taking up to 30 minutes to reach their homes and may present accessibility issues for children who find walking long distances challenging. Children are walking on unpaved footpaths which lately have been flooded regularly, and have to cross busy roads, including Queen and King Streets, Queen and East Streets and Goombungee Road. An additional preferred drop off/pick up point would be at the Kingsthorpe Skate Park on Petersen’s Road.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to consider accessibility issues and the safety of the school children and immediately assess the need for a bus stop at the Kingsthorpe Skate Park for Oakey State High School students.
