Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House the decision to increase fine amounts for driving offences in Queensland. There is no published evidence to show that increasing fine amounts will in any way improve road safety or reduce the number of fatalities on Queensland roads. This decision by the government, therefore, can only be viewed as a revenue raising initiative and nothing more.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to do all in its power to reverse the decision to increase driving offence fine amounts and leave them at the current amount prior to 1 July 2022.
