Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House that the current Australian Consumer Law is not sufficient to protect consumers who purchase new motor vehicles in Australia. The United States of America (USA) have additional state-based laws (called Lemon Laws) to further protect their consumers through a range of very clear and detailed requirements. These Lemon Laws have been in place for over 35 years in the USA and have ensured that consumers are protected should they have purchased a new vehicle that is not durable, reliable or safe.
Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to introduce Lemon Laws into Queensland to protect Australian consumers with the long-term plan to release this for national acceptance.
