The petition of residents of the state of Queensland draws to the
attention of the House of the proposal to relocate the Police Beat from
the Logan Central Plaza Shopping Centre. Our concerns about this
proposed relocation are:
• Logan Central Plaza is a convenient meeting place for the public, an
economic hub for the area and is in a central location. Due to the
Police Beat being located in the Centre there are many benefits to the
business at the Centre and the surrounding areas as well as the public.
This is the same argument used in a letter dated 8 July 1998 and signed
by the then Member for Woodridge when he requested that a Police Beat be
able to open at Logan Central Plaza.
• Customers feel safe with a Police Beat at Logan Central Plaza and there
has been large decreases in crime within the local area since the Police
Beat was introduced.
• Police response times will be less than what they currently are.

Your petitioners therefore request the House to retain the Police Beat at
Logan Central Plaza or as a compromise relocate the Police Beat but
retain a Police Shop Front with at least one officer at Logan Central
Plaza.
