The petition of residents of Queensland draws to the attention of the
House that the current Child Protection Legislation is not child focused
and does not provide for permanency for the children in State care.
Your petitioners therefore request the House to: 1. Make enacting
legislation for permanency hearings to take place no later than 12 months
after the child has been placed in foster care with few exceptions; 2.
Initiate termination of parental rights petitions when the child has been
in State care for 15 months of the preceding 22 months; 3. Focus on
guardianships – adoptions to foster and kinship carers as suitable care
options as: protection, health, safety and stability should be of
paramount concern.
