The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the Queensland Governments lack of commitment to the NDIS. The petitioners below call upon the Queensland Government to work with the Federal Government, people with disability, their families and carers towards a National Disability Insurance Scheme. We recognise that the Federal Government has delivered a $1 billion for the NDIS in the budget, more than three quarters of the cost of the pilot launch.
A National Disability Insurance Scheme will:
- provide people with significant and permanent disability, and their families and carers, with the care and support they need over their lifetimes;
- give people with a disability choice and control over the care and support they receive; and
- support people with disability, their families and carers to participate in work, in school and in community life.
Your petitioners therefore request the House to urge Premier Campbell Newman to commit to funding Queensland's share of an NDIS in the interests of people with disability, their families and carers in Queensland. Our state cannot afford to be left out.
