Designated work place facilities for doctors at Redcliffe Hospital

SANDGATE QLD 4017
Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House the failure of the previous State Labor Government to uphold its commitment under the Medical Officers' (Queensland Health) memorandum of understanding 2009 (Doctors' MOU 2009) to fund designated workplace facilities for doctors in Queensland hospitals.
Funding was provided to some of the large metropolitan hospitals but regional and smaller metropolitan hospitals such as Redcliffe were forgotten. The commitment was developed by the Medical Interest Based Bargaining group (MIBB) during the Medical Officers' (Queensland Health) Certified Agreement (No. 1) 2005 (MOCA 1).
Our hospitals may not have as many doctors as some of the major hospitals but we feel that we make an equal contribution to the health of the community. Therefore, doctors at smaller hospitals should be provided with similar facilities. Designated workplace facilities enable doctors to safely provide qualify patient care by:
a) giving doctors a private place for confidential discussion
b) providing a quiet study space and a rest area to reduce fatigue
c) enhancing personal wellbeing and professional development through peer interaction.
Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to take all steps necessary to ensure designated workplace facilities for doctors in Queensland hospitals.
