TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

The Petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the
attention of the House that: The Gold Coast Harbour Vision 2020 Project –
Report No. 1 prepared by Gold Coast City Council officers recommends,
inter alia, the following:– • An increase in the size of Wavebreak Island
from 37.15 ha to 95 ha • A bridge connecting Labrador to The Spit via
Wavebreak Island • Development of Wavebreak Island for low, medium and
high rise residential, retail and commercial purposes • Further marina
development and moorings in the Broadwater • Commercial use of the
Southport foreshore for cafe’s, restaurants, taverns and an events
park/amphitheatre for outdoor entertainment. Your petitioners therefore
request the House to: Advise the Gold Coast City Council that the House
will not agree to the recommendations contained in the Gold Coast Harbour
Vision 2020 Project – Report No. 1 and is against any commercial
development of the Broadwater (including Wavebreak Is) and the western
foreshore and any further reclamation.
