Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House that legislation prohibiting smoking in cars containing children under the age of 16 needs to be passed as a priority. A very recent study showed that tobacco smoke in cars, significantly increases health risks for children. Risks include, bronchitis, pneumonia, ear infections, asthma and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. It was also announced on 26 March 2008, laws will ban smoking in cars carrying children.
Your petitioners therefore request the House to legislate prohibiting smoking in cars containing children under the age of 16.
