The petition of Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House
the proposed sea cage fish farms in Moreton Bay Marine Park.

I want to see Moreton Bay protected.

As an environmentally conscious Australian, I wish to register my support
for the protection of this magnificent area that includes vast seagrass
beds, a diversity of marine life including endangered species such as the
loggerhead turtle and supports recreational pursuits and industries such
as tourism and commercial and recreational fishing.

The proposed location of a sea cage finfish aquaculture facility is a
major cause for concern due to the high environmental, recreational and
aesthetic values associated with this region. This part of the bay also
comprises habitat for a variety of threatened and endangered species, as
well as sites recognised internationally as significant for migratory
birds.

Protecting Moreton Bay from sea cage finfish aquaculture and other
inappropriate development will be applauded by future generations of
Australians, particularly those who use the bay.

I urge you to stop this development from proceeding in Moreton Bay Marine
Park now and in the future.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to stop this development
from proceeding; establish a new policy that does not allow sea cage
aquaculture in Moreton Bay Marine Park; and continue to promote councils,
industries and individuals that improve the health of our bay and
waterways.
